Our dream is coming true and here is how it all started...

What, we're going to be "snowbirds"? Who does that?! Before Bob met me, his retirement dream was to have a little "shack" on the water where he could fish, drink scotch and smoke cigars. He really likes to tease me about how I've ruined everything because now we're looking at a real home without a "hole in the floor", ha ha (this might be what it was going to look like)!

I never imagined having a home anywhere but Chicago let alone a second home, however, I'm getting used to the idea! Bob's little shack has evolved into a beautiful home with space for all of our family and friends to come (but maybe not this).

We visited Florida a few times in the last couple of years and checked out several towns on the southern Gulf side, but nothing felt quite right. Funny story, we first heard of Cape Coral while watching David Bromstad on HGTV's My Lottery Dream Home! Just before Covid hit the U.S. hard, we visited Cape Coral and we knew right away that this was exactly what we were looking for. Thanks David!

Although travel was stopped due to the pandemic, our amazing realtor, Michelle, started the home search for us from afar. For months, we had listings come to our email but we didn't see anything worth driving down for. But then market really shifted in Cape Coral, the inventory was going fast and prices were going up and still we saw nothing we were thrilled about.
Unable to find an existing home that we were thrilled about and not really wanting to do a major renovation from Chicago, we decided to find a lot and build a home! Michelle changed our search to land for sale and I started researching local custom builders. After a few days, the perfect lot in Southeast Cape Coral, on a wide canal and only 15 minutes from open water was on the market.

Michelle walked the lot with us virtually and we fell in love with it. That night, we put an offer in, the buyer countered and we took it!

Oh my gosh you guys, look at the water!

Stay tuned for our next trip to Florida to see our lot in person and interview some builders. We're so excited to share this process with you and share our "southern white house" with our family and friends!
